Mentorship Program

Join a Growing Movement in Organic Agriculture with Expert Guidance and Financial Support

Texas farmers interested in transitioning to organic production have an exciting opportunity to receive one-on-one mentorship and a $500 stipend through the Texas Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). Led by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and supported by the USDA’s National Organic Program, this mentorship initiative is actively recruiting new mentees who are ready to begin their journey toward organic certification.

Texas is uniquely positioned to lead in organic agriculture. Our Texas TOPP mentors represent a powerful network of experienced organic producers who are already making a difference across the state. They provide unmatched support to new farmers during their transition.

TOPP mentors are certified organic producers with years of experience in diverse operations across the state—from the Panhandle and South Plains to West Central Texas, Central Texas, the Coastal Bend, and the Rio Grande Valley. They grow and manage organic dairy, cotton, peanuts, corn, sorghum, rice, wheat, vegetables, fruits, citrus, beef cattle, and nursery crops. These producers are seasoned experts in organic system planning, cover crops, soil fertility, weed and pest management, livestock care, and organic marketing.

These mentors are not just volunteers—they’re the lifeblood of our Texas Organic Program. Their boots-on-the-ground knowledge and dedication are helping Texas grow the next generation of organic producers.

Farmers accepted into the TOPP mentee program will be paired with a mentor and receive personalized support for at least 40 hours over a 12-month period. Activities may include on-farm visits, help developing an Organic System Plan (OSP), and participation in educational events. Mentees will also receive a $500 stipend to support their participation in the program.

Currently, 13 mentors are participating in the Texas program, and 16 mentees are actively engaged in their organic transitions. With room for more mentees, I encourage any farmer with a serious interest in organic agriculture to apply.

Both mentors and I are here to walk alongside you every step of the way. This program removes the guesswork and connects you with real people who’ve already made the transition and understand the practical and economic realities of organic farming.
